SCOTTISH UTILITY BREEDS CLUB 1977-2022

Hon Vice President Miss S R M Thomson

Scottish Utility Breeds club held their inaugural meeting on the 10th of July 1977 where a group of like-minded Utility exhibitors attended to consider forming a Utility Group in Scotland. The first meeting to form a committee was held in January 1978.

The club’s registration was approved by the Kennel Club in April 1978, and they went on to hold their first show on the 1st of October 1978. The Club’s first Chairman was Mr J Currie.

The Hon Secretary was Miss P McKie who held the position till 1985 when she retired due to ill health. The first Hon Treasurer of the club from 1977 to 2017 was the late Mrs S Martin she held the position for 40 years no mean feat.

The club has had four Hon Secretary’s between 1985 and 1993. Mrs F Main, Mr H Parson’s, Miss H Cadiz and Mr B Stevenson.

When I took over the role of Interim Secretary in the summer of 1993 the President was Father J Peat, and we now have Mr Ian Millar both founder members of the club.

I enjoy very much being part of this committee. The highlight of my role as Secretary is in having achieved with the committee of the Scottish Utility Breeds Club Championship Status starting 2024 to 2028. We are now going to move on to being a Group Championship Society with Challenge Certificates for 15 Breeds.

We thank everyone who over the years has been on committee and has helped the club to be successful many of the helpers have been our backbone and we thank you all for help and advice and for stewarding and contributing to our fundraising efforts for 2024.

We look forward to seeing everyone at Kelso in 2024
